Men's Strokeplay Champions Confirmed

The forecast was for rain on Saturday 24th September for the 4th and final round of the men’s strokeplay championship. The rain came in late in the morning and really did limit the field to those that needed to play. The 2023 Senior Men’s Strokeplay Champion is Sam Houghton with a 3-round score of 225. Sam was able to navigate the wet conditions with confidence going out in 38 and coming home in 36 for a 3 over round of 74. Sam’s score nearly got away from him with a double bogey 5 on the 11th. However, he followed that up with 3 straight birdies to steady the ship and claim the title. Richard Gyde with a 3-round total of 228 had the lead by 2 shots going into the last round but a 7 over 42 on the front nine put him on the backfoot. Richard put up a back nine fight coming home in 37 but the damage was done. Scott Gyde has claimed the 2023 Intermediate Strokeplay title with a 3-round total of 245 which was 1 shot better that Paul Bishop on 246. Paul had a couple of small putts lip out on the day which were a cruel blow. Dave Bunker secured the 2023 Junior Strokeplay Title by 5 shots with a 3-round score of 256 over Kieran Pengelly with 261. Kieran had a great 4th round 82 which brought him into contention, unfortunately Kieran only managed 3 of the 4 weeks and was forced to leave a score in the mix, which was not great, being able to play all 4 rounds certainly can be an advantage. The 2023 Limit Championship which could be described as a great 4th round comeback was claimed by Clem Fowler with a fantastic final round 87 and 3-round total of 278 to pip Jason Kerr on the day who finished with a 3-round total of 284. A big thanks to all those players who did participate in this years strokeplay event and congratulations to our 4 champions.
